Fresh Spell of Snowfall, Rainfall in Kashmir, Weather Department Predicts Rainfall in These Regions

As higher reaches in Kashmir, Himachal and Uttarakhand received fresh snowfall, the Met department has predicted isolated spells of rainfall in northern India.

  • Fresh spell of snowfall was witnessed in higher reaches in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Isolated snowfall also occurred in upper reaches of Himachal Pradesh.

New Delhi: Many areas in Kashmir and upper reaches in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh received snowfall while many parts of northern India including UP, Punjab, Haryana received rainfall at isolated places on Saturday.

Several districts in Jammu and Kashmir including Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian, Pulwama, Bandipora, Kupwara, Gulmarg, Sonamarg and Pahalgam received fresh snowfall on Saturday.

A fresh spell of snowfall was also witnessed at higher reaches in Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla while isolated rainfall occurred in plain regions in north India states including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab.

The weather department has predicted  isolated spells of snowfall and rain on Saturday (today) and Sunday.

Meanwhile, thunderstorm accompanied with hail, gusty winds (30-40 Kmph) and lightning likely to occur over Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand on March 16 night.

In another weather trend, the weather department has witnessed a rising tendency by 1-2 degrees during the past 24 hours over many places of Uttar Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Northern parts of  West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh , Assam & Meghalaya while no significant change was seen over rest of the country.

In addition to this, several districts in northern India especially the Delhi-NCR region have witnessed a sudden rise in day temperatures, showing trends of early summer.

Avalanche warning in Himachal 

The Met office on Saturday issued an avalanche alert for higher altitude regions in Himachal Pradesh for the next 24 hours along with rainfall at isolated places for the next four days except Tuesday.

An orange alert was issued by Chandigarh-based Defence Geoinformatics Research Establishment saying there was a possibility of avalanches in high altitude areas of Chamba, Kullu, Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti districts.

Many isolated regions in Himachal have been witnessing light snowfall since Friday evening including Gondla, Kukumseri and Kalpa. Intermittent rainfall has also occurred at various places.

According to the met department, Himachal Pradesh has received 60.7 mm of rainfall in the pre-monsoon season from March 1 to 15.
