New Delhi: Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP ) MLA T Raja Singh has refused the government-issued bulletproof vehicle and security personnel, demanding instead to be granted a gun license for personal protection.
Singh, who represents the Goshamahal constituency, expressed his discontent with the police’s security arrangements, which he claims hinder his ability to connect with his constituents.
The Hyderabad city police issued a formal notice on March 19, directing Singh to use the bulletproof car and the 1+4 security detail provided to him for his safety.
The notice came after reports of Singh frequently moving in public without proper security, despite receiving numerous threats.
However, Singh has firmly rejected the idea, arguing that traveling in a bulletproof vehicle would limit his access to the people he represents, particularly in the narrow lanes and busy areas of his constituency.
In addition to rejecting the security measures, Singh has raised an issue with the police department’s refusal to grant him a gun license.
He claims that his application for a license was denied, despite his legitimate security concerns, due to ongoing cases against him.
"What exposes the hypocrisy of the system is that when I applied for a gun licence citing security concerns, the same police department rejected my application, citing cases against me. Ironically, many individuals with pending cases have been granted gun licenses without objections,” Singh pointed out.
