Terror Suspect Held in J&K's Sopore, Huge Cache of Arms And Ammunition Seized

Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore Police on Sunday, in a joint operation with the CRPF, nabbed a terror suspect and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunitions.

Sopore: In a major crackdown against terror outfits, Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore Police, in a joint operation along with the battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Sunday, successfully nabbed a terror suspect, who was in possession of a huge cache of arms and ammunitions. The incident occurred at a ‘naka’ at Machipora in the Bomai area.

According to the police, the suspect, who was travelling in a car, attempted to escape from the clutches of the security forces. However the alert staff didn’t let him go and captivated him tactfully at the site.

Huge Cache of Arms And Ammunition Was Recovered

A senior police official stated that the Sopore police on Sunday at around 7.40 pm, alongwith 22 RR and 179 Bn CRPF established a joint naka at Machipora in Bomai. During the vehicle checking at the naka, one white coloured car coming from Bomai towards Machipora was intercepted and was signaled to stop. However, the driver of the vehicle didn't slow down and attempted to flee from the spot.

The security personnel at the naka, without delaying any chance, apprehended the suspect and seized his car.

During the questioning he disclosed his identity as Waheed ul Zahoor, a resident of Hadipora in Rafiabad located in Srinagar. During the search, a big cache of arms and ammunition and other incriminating material were recovered from the vehicle.

As per the police, 2 Turkish pistols, 3 Turkish pistol magazines, 41 pistol cartridges, 2 Chinese grenades, 1 Turkish pistol silencer and incriminating IED materials.

Subsequently, an FIR Under UAP(A) and various other sections was registered at the Bomai police station and further investigation was initiated.

The police stated that more recoveries and arrests may likely happen in the case in the coming days. Further legal action into the matter is being taken.
