Three Kanwariyas Killed, One Critically Injured After Speeding Car Hits Group In Punjab’s Sirhind

New Delhi: Three Kanwariyas were killed and another was critically injured after a speeding car rammed into a group of pilgrims walking along the Sirhind GT Road in Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib district early Sunday morning.

The accident took place near Dada Motors on the Sirhind GT Road at around 2:15 AM, when the Kanwariyas were returning to Kotkapura in Faridkot district after collecting holy water from Gangotri in Uttarakhand.

According to the details available, the group was walking along the road when a vehicle approaching from behind at high speed struck four Kanwariyas.

The impact was severe, killing three of them on the spot. Another Kanwariya, identified as Mukesh Kumar, sustained critical injuries and was rushed for medical treatment.

The deceased have been identified as Mahendra Pal, Deepak and Jagdish Mittal, all residents of Faridkot district.

Sirhind police have launched an investigation into the accident and are working to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the collision.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Tilak Raj of Sirhind Police Station said the matter is being investigated and the cause of the accident is being ascertained.

The incident occurred amid the ongoing Kanwar pilgrimage season, during which large numbers of devotees travel on roads across northern India after collecting holy water from the Ganga and other sacred rivers.
