Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weather warning for Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms with lightning in multiple districts on Monday.
According to the IMD’s Bhubaneswar centre, thunderstorms with lightning were expected in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur districts. The department also predicted light rainfall in Odisha’s coastal regions.
On Saturday, light to moderate rainfall was recorded in both coastal and interior areas of the state, while Ganjam district witnessed heavy downpour.
The highest rainfall was recorded at Rangeilunda (8 cm), followed by Chhatrapur (7 cm). Several other areas, including Aska, Buguda, and Ganjam, received 5 cm of rain, while Kakatpur and Gop in Puri district also recorded 5 cm.
The IMD’s Sunday evening bulletin also warned of a sharp rise in day temperatures over the next 4-5 days. The maximum temperature in Odisha was expected to increase by 4-6 degrees Celsius, making the weather significantly hotter.
Residents were advised to stay alert for thunderstorms and prepare for the rising heat in the coming days. The IMD continues to monitor the weather conditions, and further updates were expected based on real-time observations.
