Jammu: A tragic road accident claimed the life of a migrant worker on the outskirts of Jammu after he was struck by a vehicle attached to the escort convoy of Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary. The incident took place at approximately 9:05 PM in the Gangyal industrial corridor.

According to official reports, the security cavalcade was on its way back after dropping Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary at his official residence in nearby Kunjwani.

The victim has been identified as Bharat Kaper, a native of Samastipur district in Bihar. Kaper had been earning a living as a shop worker in the local neighbourhood.

Witnesses and police authorities stated that Kaper was attempting to cross the busy stretch of road when a speeding Mahindra Scorpio, part of the returning VIP escort fleet, collided with him. The impact of the collision left Kaper critically injured on the road.

Immediately following the accident, the driver of the Scorpio stopped the vehicle and, with the assistance of onlookers and convoy staff, rushed the victim to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Jammu for emergency medical care.

However, attending physicians at the facility declared him brought dead upon arrival. Preliminary investigations indicate that high speeds and poor nighttime visibility on the arterial road played a key role in the collision.

Statements from eyewitnesses and convoy personnel are being recorded, while CCTV footage along the Gangyal highway stretch is being reviewed to establish precise vehicle movement and responsibility.

Further forensic procedures and a post-mortem examination are underway before the victim's remains are handed over to his family.
