Mauganj: A violent clash broke out in Mauganj district of Madhya Pradesh, resulting in the death of a policeman and leaving several others seriously injured, including a Tehsildar. The incident occurred on the second day of Holi in Gadara village, where a group of tribals attacked the police team. According to reports, the tribals had taken a man named Sunny Dwivedi hostage, suspecting him of killing one of their own members, identified as Ashok Kumar, in a road accident a few months ago. When the police team arrived to rescue Dwivedi, they were met with fierce resistance from the tribals, who attacked them with sticks and stones.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ramcharan Gautam sustained grievous injuries during the attack, who later succumbed to his injuries during treatment at the hospital. Several other police personnel also sustained injuries, who were hospitalised for treatment. The police had to fire in the air to disperse the mob and ensure their safety. The district administration has imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to maintain public order and prevent disturbances in the area. A heavy police force has been deployed to bring the situation under control.

According to the sources, in a shocking display of tribal fury, a group of Kol tribe members in the Mauganj district allegedly kidnapped and killed a man, Sunny Dwivedi, before attacking a police team that attempted to rescue him. The incident, which took place in Gadra village on Saturday, resulted in the death of a police officer, ASI Charan Gautam, and left several others injured.

According to local sources, the tribals suspected Dwivedi of killing one of their own members several months ago. However, police records indicate that Kumar's death was the result of a road accident. Despite this, the tribals took matters into their own hands, abducting Dwivedi and brutally killing him.

When a police team, led by Shahpur police station house officer Sandeep Bhartiya, arrived at the scene to rescue Dwivedi, they were met with fierce resistance from the tribals. The police team was attacked with sticks and stones, leaving several officers injured. ASI Charan Gautam, who was part of the police team, succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Rewa Range Deputy Inspector General of Police (IGP) Saket Pandey confirmed the incident, saying, "Two persons, including an ASI, have been killed, and other policemen have sustained minor injuries." Pandey also acknowledged that the police had to fire in the air to disperse the mob and ensure their safety.
