Mumbai: Mumbai: Mumbai is known for its bustling traffic, pothole-filled roads, and numerous roadworks carried out by the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation). This leads to frequent accidents, road rage incidents, delayed arrivals, and missed flights and trains.

In response to this issue, Uber, in collaboration with Reliance General Insurance, has introduced a unique insurance program called the "Missed Flight Connection Cover" in Mumbai. This cover allows passengers to claim compensation of up to Rs. 7,500 if an Uber ride takes longer than expected, causing them to miss their flight.

How can someone get this coverage?

  • Passengers can purchase the insurance for an additional Rs. 3 per ride at the time of booking. The cover also includes OPD and medical costs in case of accidents.
  • The ride must be booked with "airport" as the destination.
  • The Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) for the ride should be between 90 to 120 minutes before the flight’s departure.
  • To claim the insurance, passengers must submit flight tickets, booking details, and a no-travel confirmation from the airline.

Need for Uber Missed Flight Cover

Currently, approximately 700 km of Mumbai's roads are under construction by the BMC, leading to frequent traffic jams. This situation often leaves commuters stuck in traffic for extended periods. A representative from the Maharashtra Rajya Rashtriya Kamgar Sangh (MRRKS), which represents cab drivers in Maharashtra, expressed concern about the frustration of passengers, who often engage in heated arguments with drivers when they are delayed in reaching their destination.

Many times, the Uber app shows a shorter ETA compared to the actual time taken due to traffic congestion, which further fuels passengers' aggression.
