Bengaluru: The Karnataka government announced a Rs 4 per litre increase in the price of milk, bringing the total hike to Rs 6 within two years. This follows a previous Rs 2 hike in June 2024, which was accompanied by an additional 50 ml per packet. The latest adjustment raises the price of milk from Rs 44 to Rs 48 per litre, marking the second price revision in less than a year. The price hike will come to effect from April 1st.

The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), which operates the popular Nandini Milk brand, which is the state’s bestselling dairy product brand supplies milk across Karnataka. The government has justified the hike, stating that the additional revenue will go directly to dairy farmers, who have long demanded better compensation amid rising production costs, including fodder, labor, and other expenses. Milk federations across the state have expressed their support for the decision.

The price hike has sparked mixed reactions among netizens, with many expressing frustration on platforms like X.

One user wrote, “Another hike of milk in Karnataka. Rs 4 raised in all milks in Nandini!! #nandini getting costlier day by day. Free free free andorella screwing state for good.”
