UP Hospital Under Fire As Surgical Needle Left In Woman's Head
Doctor at government hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Hapur left a surgical needle inside the head of an 18-year-old woman while she was undergoing stitching.
Hapur: In a shocking incident, a doctor at a government hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Hapur left a surgical needle inside the head of an 18-year-old woman while she was undergoing stitching treatment.
The woman had suffered a head injury during a clash with her neighbours. After consulting with doctors, she was told that stitches would be required on her head.
Surgical Needle Left Inside Head
After leaving the hospital, the woman went home and after a few hours, she started screaming in pain. Consequently, she was rushed to a private health hospital by her family members.
The doctors reopened the wound and were astonished to discover the needle inside. Only after it was taken out did the woman finally feel some relief.
"We don't want anyone to go through this. We want action," the woman’s mother said.
Chief Medical Officer Orders Probe
Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer for Hapur district, Dr Sunil Tyagi said that authorities are aware about the incident and an investigation has been ordered in the matter.
"We have ordered an investigation by a two-member team. As soon as we get a report, we will take action," he said.
CMO Hapur also refuted the allegations made by the woman's family that the doctor was drunk at that time.
"Doctor in this case does not drink at all," he said.
Earlier in July this year, a woman from Bengaluru was awarded Rs 5 lakh in compensation by a consumer forum, nearly 20 years after a 3.2-centimeter surgical needle was accidentally left inside her body during surgery at a private hospital. The Karnataka State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission ordered the hospital and two doctors to also pay Padmavathi, a Jayanagar resident, Rs 50,000 for litigation expenses.
It has also directed New India Assurance Co Ltd, which had issued a policy covering the hospital expenses, to pay her Rs 5 lakh for "the professional and medical negligence caused."
