Mathura: In a tragic incident, a 17-year-old boy drowned while bathing in a river in Mathura, police said on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Pritam Vishwas, who had come from West Bengal's New Jalpaiguri to visit Braj in Mathura.
Police said that the teenager had come with his parents and other family members.
Chains Slipped From Hand, Drowned
Police said that the incident occurred when Vishwas was bathing in the Radhakund Govardhan area.

“The chain he was holding on to slipped from his hand and fell into deep waters,” an official said.

According to police, efforts were made to rescue the child; however, he died by the time he was brought out.
Further investigation is underway, cops added.
Meanwhile, two women, Shobha (23) and Nadiya (19), drowned in the Kaveri River at Muthathi town in Mandya district, Karnataka, while visiting a temple to offer prayers.
The police said that the women had come to the Muthathi temple with their families to perform pooja. W
While bathing in the river, they drowned and their bodies were later recovered by authorities. A case has been registered by the Halaguru police station in connection with the incident.
