Vadodara: Multiple fresh CCTV footages linked to the shocking road accident in Gujarat 's Vadodara that killed one woman and injured four others have now surfaced. In the latest visuals, accused law student Rakshit Chaurasiya and one of his friends were captured. The speeding car that hit two scooters and dragged the riders a few metres before coming to a halt was also seen in the new surfaced footages, recorded at March 13, 10.33 PM, 45 minutes before the fatal crash.
According to the visuals, 23-year-old prime accused Rakshit Chaurasia arrived at his friend Suresh Bharwad's house on a scooter. Both of them were seen engaged in a conversation as they climbed up the stairs of the house. Rakshit was seen drinking from a bottle, although the substance of the bottle is yet to be ascertained.
Another clip recorded at 10.46 PM from the similar location captured Pranshu Chauhan, Rakshit's another friend who was with him at the time of the accident. Pranshu arrived at the location in a black sedan (the fatal car). He parked the car in front of the house and was seen walking upstairs.
At around 11.25 PM, both accused Rakshit Chaurasiya and his friend Pranshu Chauhan were seen coming downstairs. They opened the gate and left the location in the same black sedan.
On Friday, a woman was killed and four others were critically injured after a speeding car driven by Rakshit, a law student from Varanasi, hit them at around 12.30 AM near Muktanand Cross Roads in the Karelibaug area. The crashed into multiple two-wheelers and one woman died on spot, while the injured were rushed to the hospitals. Rakshit, who appeared intoxicated, was heard screaming - 'Another round, another round!' as he stepped out of the wrecked vehicle. He was also heard shouting ‘Om Namah Shivay’. His erratic behaviour was captured in multiple videos recorded by the bystanders. He was then severely thrashed by the locals before the police arrived. Rakshit Chaurasia was driving a Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus black car with a number plate of - GJ06RA6879. His friend on the passenger seat claimed that he was not at fault and blamed Rakshit solely for the incident before fleeing the scene. He was later arrested by police. The authorities have charged the prime accused with culpable homicide and other relevant sections of the law. Police have collected his blood samples to ascertain if he was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Days after the horrific car crash, Vikas Kewalani, one of the victims has made shocking claims about the accused. In a statement from the hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries, the victim has demanded strict punishment while stating that imposing a fine is not a solution. Vikas has also claimed that the accused was 'intoxicated' and that he was over-speeding for ‘enjoyment purposes’.
Although accused Rakshit Chaurasiya initially denied being drunk while being behind the wheels, but he later admitted to having bhaang (cannabis). In one of first statement after being arrested, he said that when he was driving at a speed of 50-60 km/hr and took a right turn, there was a pothole on the road. He claimed that after his car slightly touched another vehicle, the sudden deployment of airbags hampered his front view and that led to the accident. On being asked about what he was screaming after the accident, he said, “I was screaming like that to ensure people stayed away from me.” He also said that he was part of Holika Dahan celebrations and was not partying before the accident took place. He acknowledged his role in the accident and expressed his desire to meet the victims' families. "I want to meet the family of the victims, it is my fault and whatever they want that should happen," he said.
