Hamirpur: Amid the ongoing 'Operation Bhediya,' an initiative to capture the man-eater wolves in Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich, now villagers of Hamirpur killed a jackal on Tuesday after it entered a house and attacked more than half a dozen people.

The incident occurred in Bilpur village, within the Jalalpur police station area, when a jackal attacked six people, including a woman, officials said.

The villagers then surrounded the animal and beat it with sticks, leading to its death.

The injured individuals have been admitted to the hospital, and their condition is reported to be stable.

Divisional Forest Officer Anil Srivastav stated that the jackal might have attacked the villagers out of fear or in self-defense. A forest department team has been sent to investigate the incident and submit a report.

Jalalpur police station In-charge Umashankar mentioned that no formal report of the jackal attack had yet been received at the police station.
