'Want To Put Culprits on No-Fly List': Govt On Amending Safety Rules Amid Bomb Threats

New Delhi: Amid multiple bomb threats for flights across different airlines, the Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu held a press conference and addressed the issue. The Civil Aviation Minister said that those responsible for sending the threats, may be put on no-flying list and legislative actions are also likely.

Legislative Actions Likely for Those Behind Bomb Threats: Rammohan Naidu

The Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Monday said the government plans to take legislative actions to deal with instances of bomb threats to airlines, including placing perpetrators of such threats in the no-fly list. In the last one week, nearly 100 flights of Indian airlines received bomb threats.

At a briefing in the national capital, Naidu said amendments are being planned to aviation security rules as well as the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against Safety of Civil Aviation Act, 1982.

The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) is continuously in touch with the Ministry of Home Affairs on the situation of bomb threats to flights, he said.

IndiGo, Air India and Akasa Among Airlines to Receive Bomb Threats

This week, nearly 100 flights received threats sending security agencies into a tizzy. The threats later turned out to be hoaxes. All airlines including Air India , IndiGo and Akasa Air have issued individual statements, taking cognisance of the situation and assuring passengers about their safety. Several government agencies including intelligence, security are probing these developments as it remains a top priority for the government. A few days ago, Civil Aviation ministry said that most of these threat messages were being sent by minors and pranksters based in abroad.

The MHA has also sought a detailed report on the bomb threats being received by the planes; the CISF and BCAS Chiefs have briefed the Home Secretary on the issue on Monday.
