Kolkata: In a tragic road accident, seven people were killed while eight others were left injured after a speeding car rammed into three e-rickshaws in West Bengal's Nadia district, police said on Friday.
According to police, the incident took place at Lakshmigachha in Chapra area.
“Victims were returning home after shopping for the upcoming Eid festival,” a police officer said.
Seven occupants of the electric vehicles died on the spot while nearly eight people have been injured.
The condition of the two people is serious, they added.
The victims were taken to a nearby hospital and a manhunt has been launched for the driver of the car who fled the spot leaving behind the vehicle.
In a tragic road accident, a woman was killed and several others sustained injuries when a speeding car driven by a 20-year-old law student rammed into their two-wheelers in Gujarat ’s Vadodara city in the early hours of Friday.
The accused driver identified as Rakshit Chaurasiya has been apprehended.
Police said the accused was intoxicated as per the witnesses account.
However, the driver has refuted the claims, stating that the deployment of the airbags caused him to lose control of the vehicle.
"I was driving my friend's car. My front view got blocked when the airbags were deployed after the car made slight contact with the scooter. I wasn't intoxicated,” the accused driver said.
A case has been registered against the accused driver.
