New Delhi: US Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard arrived in the national capital on Sunday to participate in a high-level security and intelligence conference chaired by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
The conclave, attended by top global intelligence chiefs, aimed to strengthen cooperation in tackling various security challenges, including terrorism, threats posed by emerging technologies, immigration, and extradition.
Gabbard is the first senior official from the Trump administration to visit India since his return to the White House. The US spy chief is also scheduled to speak at the Raisina Dialogue on Tuesday.
The India-hosted security conclave saw participation from key global security figures, including Canadian spy chief Daniel Rogers, UK National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell, and top officials from Australia, New Zealand, and the United Arab Emirates.
While official details of the closed-door meeting were not released, reports suggest that intelligence sharing and counterterrorism efforts were central to the discussions.
According to sources, Doval and Gabbard focused on strengthening intelligence cooperation and collaboration in the security domain, in line with the India-US global strategic partnership.
“It was a good discussion,” top sources told PTI regarding the Doval-Gabbard meeting.
The talks also covered enhancing security in the Indo-Pacific region, countering terror financing and money laundering, and addressing extradition and immigration issues.
India reportedly raised concerns about anti-India elements operating from foreign territories, including pro-Khalistan groups.
Additionally, the discussions touched upon various global challenges, including the implications of the Russia-Ukraine war and the conflict in the Middle East.
Gabbard’s visit to India is part of a multi-nation tour that includes stops in Japan, Thailand, and France.
She is also set to address the Raisina Dialogue on Tuesday and is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi , whom she previously met last month during his visit to Washington, D.C.
In a social media post on March 11, Gabbard stated that her visit aims to build “strong relationships, understanding, and open lines of communication” key to achieving Trump’s objectives of “peace, freedom, and prosperity.”
This marks Gabbard’s second foreign trip since assuming the role of Director of National Intelligence. Her first international visit was to Germany last month for the Munich Security Conference.
