Woman Drowns Amid Heavy Rain In Mumbai After Falling In Open Drain

Mumbai: Amidst heavy rain in Mumbai and its suburbs, a 45-year-old woman was drowned in an overflowing open drain in Andheri East. A senior police official confirmed the incident saying that the woman reportedly fell into the open drain, since it was overflowing and got drowned in the deep water on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred in suburban Andheri, following which the woman was retrieved from the drain and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead. 

The police official stated that the incident occurred at around 9.20 pm near gate number 8 of MIDC, Andheri East. The deceased was identified as Vimal Anil Gaikwad.

On receiving the information, the local police and the fire brigade were alerted and they took the woman to the Cooper Hospital where she was declared dead. 

The body has been preserved in a mortuary for postmortem. 

Further legal action into the matter is being taken.
