Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath , is set to introduce two new ordinances aimed at addressing the growing concerns over food contamination and unsanitary practices. The move follows a series of incidents in which individuals were caught spitting or mixing urine into food, sparking widespread public outrage.

The two proposed laws, Prevention of False and Anti-Harmony Activities and Spitting Prohibition Ordinance 2024 and UP Prevention of Contamination in Food (Consumer Right to Know) Ordinance 2024, will impose strict penalties on offenders while also ensuring greater transparency about how food is prepared and handled. Consumers will have the right to know the conditions under which their food is made, a step seen as crucial for maintaining public trust in food safety.

This government action comes after several shocking incidents across the state. In Saharanpur, a viral video showed a teenager spitting on rotis, leading to the arrest of the restaurant owner. In another case in Noida, two men were detained for allegedly contaminating juice with urine, while a vendor in Ghaziabad was arrested for similar actions involving fruit juice.

Ahead of a key meeting on the issue, Uttar Pradesh Cabinet Minister Sanjay Nishad praised Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath 's response, stating that these measures would ensure the safety and dignity of people from all communities. Nishad noted that strict laws would deter such actions in the future, reinforcing public confidence in law enforcement. He also highlighted the broader impact of stringent regulations, citing their role in reducing incidents of communal violence and other disruptions.

He said, “I thank CM Yogi for taking all necessary steps to ensure safety, security and dignity for people of all the communities. It is a kind of religious frenzy if you play with the religious sentiments of others. The country is run based on law. Once a law is formed, there will be fear and nobody will dare to do anything against the established law,”.

These ordinances are expected to be discussed further in upcoming sessions, as the state moves to address public health and safety concerns more rigorously.
