New Delhi: The Delhi government has announced the digital travel cards for women, replacing the existing pink ticket system to curb corruption and streamline free bus rides. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta spoke about this initiative while presenting the ₹1 lakh crore Budget for 2025-26.
The travel cards aim to provide women with a smoother, corruption-free experience on public buses, allowing them to travel freely anytime. Gupta emphasised that the digitised system would enhance efficiency and transparency in public transportation.
The Budget also allocated ₹12,952 crore for the transport sector, focusing on urban mobility and public transit improvements. Notably, ₹2,929 crore has been set aside for Delhi Metro expansion, while ₹1,000 crore will be used to implement urban transport projects with central government support.
Gupta highlighted the city's growing fleet of electric buses, which currently stands at 2,152 vehicles. This number is expected to surge 5,000, reinforcing Delhi's commitment to sustainable transportation.

Tihar Jail to be Relocated
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday announced plans to relocate Tihar Jail to the city’s outskirts and allocated Rs 10 crore for survey and consultancy services for the same in the budget for 2025-26.
The decision stems from safety concerns due to the jail's proximity to residential areas.
Established in 1958, Tihar Jail is one of the largest prison complexes in India, comprising nine central prisons spread over more than 400 acres.
