One of the simplest forms of origami comes in the shape of a boat. Back in the day, when it would rain cats and dogs, kids would pull out their rough books and tear up sheets to make paper boats and rush to have them sail off into a stream of gushing water. A paper boat is one of the easiest things to make by yourself and is a great way to start off learning some basic origami in the process. All you need to make it is a piece of paper and you are good to go.

  1. Once you have all the above-mentioned materials at hand, most of which you will find within the confines of your home, you can follow the simple steps discussed below to continue. It is a relatively easy process and could take less than an hour when you are learning how to make a paper boat.
  2. Lay a rectangular-shaped paper out. In case you are using printed paper, ensure that the printed side is facing up
  3. Fold this sheet of paper in half so that it creates a horizontal crease right in the middle
  4. Now take the top corners and fold them towards the middle where they meet while leaving a small 1-inch space at the bottom
  5. Once you have a triangle shape, fold the bottom flaps and shape upwards.
  6. Take the middle section and pull it out so that it forms a shape like a hat
  7. Now you can open up the hat shape out completely until it forms a square and then insert the edges of one flap under the other on each side.
  8. Then fold the base flaps of the square on both the sides, so you have a protruded triangle shape left.
  9. Using your fingers, pull out the middle of the triangle.
  10. Then pull out the middle of that
  11. Press it down to completely flatten the whole thing
  12. Go to the bottom and open it out so that you get your boat
  13. Voila! Your DIY paper boat is ready to set sail.
