Scary books aren’t very often the most favourable genre from a readers perspective, as it might give one sleepless night. However, if you are someone who enjoys being terrified or you wish to step into the world of horror, then these best-sellers scary novels are worth your time. With Halloween approaching on October 31, 2019, you need to indulge in these fictional horror books that shouldn't be missed.

1. The Exorcist

One of the earliest and cult-favourite books written in the horror genre is The Exorcist. It was written by an American author William Peter Blatty, who took inspiration from a real-life event that occurred back in 1950. The book was published in the year 1971 and became a huge success. In fact, a film was made under the same title too and did exceedingly well at the box-office across the globe.

2. Baby Teeth

Lately, the book has managed to garner a lot of attention from readers all around the world for its interesting story and exceptional writing. Baby Teeth is written by Zoje Stage and was nominated for the 2018 Goodreads Choice Awards. In fact, it also managed to be in the world-renowned Forbes list of 'The five best horror books of 2018-2019'.

3. The Cabin At The End Of The World

Another book which is a must-read book for those who enjoy scary books and movies is The Cabin At The End Of The World. The book revolves around the story of a gay couple who set out on a vacation. But to their dismay they encounter some petrifying series of events, transforming a happy jaunt into a horrific one. The novel also won the 'Writers Association’s Bram Stroker Award' in 2019.

4. Ghost Story

Written by an American novelist Peter Straub, the Ghost Story is one of the most popular books in the horror genre. The book was published while commencing a new year, on January 1, 1979. It is an all-time best-selling horror novel by the author. A movie under the same title was released in 1981, directed by John Irwin.

An encyclopedia of terror, it is touted amongst the dreaded horror books of all times. Written by renowned author Shirley Jackson, it is another best selling horror novel. The book became such a success that later it got culminated into a movie and Netflix series.
