The culture and heritage of Gujarat sets it apart from other Indian states. In terms of attire too, there are a lot of variations that one can choose from. Here, the different types of sarees available in Gujarat have been highlighted and talked about. The many shades of Gujarat sarees:

Bandhani sarees

The tie-dye style of Bandhani sarees has been adopted by other states to create their own look as well. In the older times, it was considered lucky for the bride-to-be to wear a Bandhani saree on her wedding day. Today, Bandhani has become a common and popular design of Gujarat sarees and is regularly worn by the women of the state.

Patola sarees

The history of patola sarees goes back to the 12th century. These are border heavy sarees that are woven with silks and threads. Usually, patola sarees are reserved for weddings and special occasions. The worth of the saree can be estimated according to the amount of detailed work that it has. Patola sarees are distinctly Gujarati, and often regarded as the pride of the state.

Gharchola sarees

The word “gharchola” literally translates to home-wear. However, the name of these sarees is quite misleading, since they are usually reserved as brides wear in Gujarati weddings. Gharchola sarees usually use the sacred red and green as their base colours. Also, the Gharchola saree which a mother-in-law gives to the new bride should have either 12 or 52 squares.

Gujarati brocade sarees

Authentic Gujarati brocade sarees have almost gone out of production, which makes even one of these sarees extremely expensive. These sarees use silk as their fabric and have butti work done across its breadth. The inlay work, done on the saree usually uses patterns of flowers and leaves, all bordered by a dark line. The polish and shine of these sarees is what gives them an exquisitely royal look.
