What is Chhath Puja?

The word Chhath means six, and that’s why it is celebrated on the sixth day of Karthika month. According to Hindu Mythology, Chhath Puja is basically worshipping of the Surya devta (God of Sun), and as well as his sister, the Chhati Maiya (Shashti devi). Individuals observe nirjala fasts and offer prayers to the god and the goddess by bathing in the holy water in the nearest river to them. The Chhath Puja is done during the sunrise and sunset time. Devotees start their puja by taking a dip into the running river water. They also offer sweets, fruits to the 'God of light' and wish for their prosperity, happiness, and well-being.
