Guru Nanak Jayanti: Which regions are observing a holiday tomorrow?

Guru Nanak Jayanti is a festival celebrated by Sikhs since it marks the birthday of the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak. Although Guru Nanak Jayanti is one of the most important festivals for the Sikh community some states in India do not have an official holiday for the same. Guru Nanak Jayanti: States with an official holiday

Guru Nanak Jayanti is one of the most important festivals for the people belonging to the Sikh community. The festival marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak the founder of Sikhism and somebody who preached peace and service to humanity. Certain traditions are followed in order to celebrate this festival.

There are some states and union territories in India which has been declared an official holiday while some do not observe any. Some states and union territories mark the festival on two different days. Some of these States and Union Territories observe the festival on November 11 while some are observing it on November 12. Himachal Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Haryana, Punjab, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Telangana, Gujarat, Andaman & Nicobar, Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, and Delhi observe Guru Nanak Jayanti on November 11 hence the holiday is observed on the same day. Odisha observes Rasa Purnima on the same day instead of Guru Nanak Jayanti.

  Union territories and states like Lakshadweep, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Mizoram, and Daman & Diu observe Guru Nanak Jayanti on November 12. Hence these states and union territories have a holiday on November 12. Now the remaining states and union territories like Puducherry, Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, Bihar, Karnataka, Chandigarh, Andhra Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Mizoram, and Uttarakhand.

Guru Nanak Jayanti and traditions involved

Guru Nanak Jayanti as mentioned above marks the birthday of Guru Nanak the founder of Sikhism. Guru Nanak Jayanti is observed on a Full Moon Day or Purnima in the holy month of Kartik. The celebration is marked by doing pheris 15 days before the celebration. Two days before the birth anniversary, Akhand Path which is a 48-hour non-stop reading of the Guru Granth Sahib. Guru Granth Sahib is the holy book of the Sikhs. This reading is held in Gurudwaras.
