October 2, 2024, marks the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a pivotal figure in India’s struggle for independence and a global symbol of peace. Known as the Father of the Nation, Gandhi's philosophies of Satyagraha (truth) and Ahimsa (non-violence) continue to resonate even today.

On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday greeted citizens and asked all to resolve to imbibe the values of truth, non-violence, love and purity to continuously advance the development of the country.

"On behalf of all citizens, I pay my humble tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on his 155th birth anniversary," she said in an official message issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

"On this auspicious occasion, let us resolve to imbibe the values of truth, non-violence, love and purity and, with the idea of the India of Gandhiji's dreams, strive to continuously advance the development of the country and society," the President said.

Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated nationwide, with ceremonies taking place at significant locations, particularly the Gandhi memorial at Raj Ghat in New Delhi, where he was cremated. Observers pay homage through prayers, reflections, and the soulful rendition of bhajans, including the iconic “Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram.”
