How to take care of bitten nails?

  • If you have an open wound in your cuticle due to nail-biting, don’t forget to apply an overnight antibiotic cream as leaving it unattended can cause more severity and lead to infection. Consult your dermatologist if your wound doesn't heal after two or three days.
  • For the hard skin around the nails, it is suggested to avoid cutting the skin and use a moisturiser and cuticle oil instead to make the skin soft again.
  • For those who peel their nail polish are in for more issues, as with prolonged 'nail polish peeling habit' the nails will become thinner over time and won’t be able to hold a gel polish any further.
  • Don’t get fooled by the products that say harden your nails as their molecules are bigger and don't penetrate through your nails. Rather use a cuticle oil which consists of jojoba oil as it can penetrate through the nail plate.
  • Some people believe that even regular nail polish will act as a barrier against the soap and water.

Nail tips to avoid biting nails

  • If you want to stop nail biting then apply cuticle oil the minute you feel like you want to bite your nails.
  • Get yourself a nail extension.
  • Paint your nails all the time, so you will feel hurt when you bite your perfectly painted nails.
  • If you are a nail polish picker, apply Shellac as you can’t just peel it away. Your nails will also get hard over time using Shellac.
