When it comes to home decor, one of the very best solutions to make a small space feel bigger is to paint it entirely white from floor to the ceiling. But not everyone would want to do that. Hence, here are some tips on how to make space look bigger without minimising your style. To make a small room feel bigger, opt for pale cool blue-based colours. You can also go for a cooler palette like greens, blues, pale lavender even grey colours. If not white, lighter colours make rooms feel much bigger than they really are.

Vary the Wall Colour:

One of the easiest ways to add depth to your room is to use more than one shade of the same colour. It doesn’t have to be every different shade. Subtlety is the best way forward. Stay firmly within the cool palette and use just the couple of shades. Too many colours and it will be way too busy work for you. Painting the sidewalls of the narrow room in a paler shade to the end wall will open the space making it look better.

Keep it Simple:

It's not just the colours difference that is making small spaces feel bigger. It is also the furniture. Good, fuss-free, clean lines on your furniture are a much more effective choice than a fussy complicated design. Adding a hint of wooden tones also look good in the room. If the furniture is in the same palette as the walls, your furniture like your sofa will appear less obtrusive.

If the pale palette isn’t your thing and you decide to a darker shade for the wall, remember that the flooring and the ceiling play a bigger role and should have a lighter tone. Mirrors and metallic finishes instantly lift a dark interior thereby adding drama. To add richness to darker spaces, add velvets and silk. Whether your style is classic or contemporary using the simple principles you can make the rooms in your home feel so much bigger.
