In yet another incident of 'caste-based politics' by Congress, a hoarding in Patna termed party president Rahul Gandhi as 'Pandit Rahul Gandhi', and also bore a picture of him offering prayers to Lord Shiva at Kailash Mansarovar.
Further, former party president Sonia Gandhi is pictured as 'Hindu', while other senior leaders like Shakti Singh Gohil, Madan Mohan, Meira Kumar and Shakeel Ahmed have also been categorized as 'Hindus' and 'Muslims'.
Defending his party's act, Premchand Mishra compared this act to that of BJP's, claiming if 'PM Modi can do it, then so can Rahul Gandhi'. He said, "Rahul Gandhi is a born pandit and he is a brahmin. When PM Narendra Modi, for votes, can claim in rallies that he comes from extremely backward caste , then so can Rahul Gandhi, who is also a Shiv bhakt and a pandit."
This was the second instance in less than a week when the party has put out hoardings with caste of leaders on it. Just a few days ago, the party had tried to flaunt that it has maintained social balance by appointing people from all sections of the society within the party. Recently, it had revamped its state's leadership by bringing in new office bearers.
