NASA, on ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter), has shared the video of the exact moment of Blue Ghost's landing; the team at Firefly Aerospace can be seen celebrating and congratulating each other.

According to an update by Firefly Aerospace, the Blue Ghost landing on the Mare Crisium of the moon has been successful and the first visuals will be revealed soon.

Firefly Aerospace has become the first commercial company to successfully land on the Moon, marking a groundbreaking achievement in the field of commercial space exploration.

As per the latest update, the main engine has been shut down and the Blue Ghost is all set to touchdown on the Mare Crisium within two minutes.

Firefly Aerospace has also revealed that the Blue Ghost Mission is completely autonomous and is using the ‘D’Souza Guidance' model for powered descent, a model which is similar to the one used during the Apollo Moon Missions.

According to Firefly Aerospace, the Blue Ghost Mission has begun its powered descent initiation towards the Mare Crisium of the moon.

The Lunar Horizon Glow is caused by scattered light from electrostatic particles near the Moon’s surface. By capturing it in 4K video, Blue Ghost will provide scientists with detailed visual data, offering new insights into the Moon’s dust environment and electrostatic activity.

The Blue Ghost Mission, according to the Firefly Aerospace, is officially on descent trajectory towards the Mare Crisium on the Moon. 

The Blue Ghost will capture the lunar horizon glow in 4K, a phenomenon last seen by Apollo 15 and 17 over 50 years ago.

Mare Crisium, also known as the Sea of Crises, is a vast lunar mare located in the Moon's northeastern near side, with a diameter of 556 km and an area of 176,000 square kilometers, situated northeast of Mare Tranquillitatis.

Speaking about the main objectives of the Blue Ghost Mission, it will carry ten experiments and technology demos to support future Moon exploration, including instruments to analyze regolith, study geophysics, and explore solar wind interactions with Earth's magnetic field.

Firefly's Blue Ghost Mission 1, nicknamed ‘Ghost Riders in the Sky’, was launched on January 15 and is approaching the end of its 45-day journey from Earth to the Moon, with a scheduled landing on the moon today, March 2.

The Blue Ghost mission is expected to span around 14 Earth days, during which it will collect data on the Moon's regolith and examine how solar wind interacts with Earth's magnetic field.

The latest update according to Firefly Aerospace at 11:00 pm (IST) said that in just 2 hours, the Blue Ghost will execute a Descent Orbit Insertion, setting her course for the ultimate destination: the Moon's Mare Crisium. This burn, lasting 19 seconds, is scheduled to take place on the Moon's far side, resulting in a temporary communications blackout. The firm expects to reestablish contact approximately 20 minutes after the burn, at which point their team - ‘Ghost Riders’ will perform a health check to ensure the path to Mare Crisium is safe and clear.

The American company Firefly Aerospace has shared a live streaming link for everyone to witness the historic lunar landing of the Blue Ghost Mission.

This mission is part of the space agency's Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative, which is supporting three lunar missions set to take place in 2025, 2026, and 2028.
