Abhimanyu Mithun was seen as one of the promising bowlers when he had first started his international career at the beginning of this decade. The tall pacer was also seen as a handy batsman who could get some runs at the tail. Mithun has represented India in four Tests and five One Day Internationals from 2010-2011. In IPL, he has represented three teams- Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, and Sunrisers Hyderabad, respectively. Mithun who has been representing Karnataka since 2008 had turned 30 on Friday and he had treated himself with a very special birthday gift that a bowler can ask for.

Mithun takes a hat-trick on birthday

Abhimanyu Mithun, who was celebrating his 30th birthday on Friday made it a memorable moment for him as he took a hat-trick against Tamil Nadu and that too in the final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. It had happened in the final over of the Tamil Nadu innings. Even Mithun was bowling the final over of his bowling spell. On the third ball, he bowled a widish full toss to Shahrukh Khan who looked to go for a big shot but could only find Manish Pandey. On the following delivery, he once again bowled a widish delivery and tempted M Mohammed to go for a slog. The ball was timed well but Devdutt Padikkal took an outstanding catch at the boundary and then came the moment which all bowlers wish for.

On the penultimate ball of the innings, Mithun once again bowled one outside the off-stump as Murugan Ashwin looked to clear the ball over mid-on and extra cover but could unfortunately only manage to find Krishnappa Gowtham as Tamil Nadu were bundled out for 252 with a ball to spare. Abhimanyu Mithun finished with figures of 5/34 in his 9.5 overs at an economy rate of 3.46. The video of Abhimanyu Mithun's spectacular hat-trick was posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on their official Twitter handle. Watch the video here.
