Afghanistan created history on Sunday as they notched up their maiden Test victory following a seven-wicket win over Ireland in the one-off Test in Dehradun.

This was Afghanistan's second Test appearance after having made their debut against India last year in an one-off Test, where the top-ranked Test side got the better of them and finished the game on the second day itself.

Ireland had won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first. But their decision backfired as the Afghants bundled them out for just 172. Yamin Ahmadzai and Mohamad Nabi were the pick of the bowlers for Afghanistan as they picked three wickets each.

In reply, Afghans managed to take a sizeable lead after posting 314, with Rahmat Shah scoring a vital 98 and skipper Asghar Afghan scoring 67. Stuart Thompson starred with the ball for Ireland by picking up three wickets.

The young superstar of Afghanistan Cricket Rashid Khan grabbed the spotlight in this match as well. The 20-year-old leg spinner made a huge impact in registering this win. He picked a fifer which restricted Ireland to 288 in their second innings, which meant the hosts needed 147 runs to claim their first-ever Test win.

Despite losing an early wicket, Afghanistan chased down the total in style, with Rahmat Shah (76) and debutant Ihsanullah Janat (65*) scoring half centuries each. The duo stitched a 139-run stand which helped their team get over the line.

The last three years have been very memorable for Afghanistan. They were awarded the Test status by ICC in 2017, played their first Test match against India in 2018 and have now won their maiden Test match in 2019. Thus, by the virtue of their win, they are taking baby steps in Test Cricket and will definitely be a force to reckon with in the coming years.
