It’s the ‘Swiss Maestro’ vs ‘King of Clay’, 20-time Grand Slam winner vs 17-time champion, one of the greatest rivalries of all time in tennis, as Roger Federer faces off against Rafael Nadal in the French Open semi-final on Friday.  Netizens swooned over the encounter of the greats and expressed their excitement on social media.

‘Mirzya’ actress Saiyami Kher was among the most excited and summed the rivalry in the most apt way, how it was competitive on-court but sporting off it, while rooting for Federer, "#Federervsnadal probably is one of the best rivalries in sporting history! Brutal & unforgiving while playing but yet so sporting, humble & compassionate. Fine examples of how sportsmen should be. Rafa is the king of clay but I’m praying Fed gets this one! #FrenchOpen."

The legends come face to face for the 39th time, but the interesting bit is that Nadal has beaten Federer 5/5 times at Roland Garros, but in their last 5 matches overall, Federer holds a 5-0 advantage.

From writing how tennis fans were the winner irrespective of who enters the final, to ruing the ‘working day’, using hashtags like #Fedal39, referring to their 39th match, and terming it as ‘Can't get better and bigger than this’ and ‘hoping for a cracker’, netizens couldn’t keep calm.

The winner of this semifinal will play the winner of Novak Djokovic vs Dominic Thiem for the title.
