Glenn Maxwell feels Australia have 'turned a corner' in T20 format

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who starred in the first T20 against Sri Lanka on October 27, feels that Australia has turned a corner in T20 cricket and that is why the side has been able to pull off victories. Leading to the showcase event in Australia next year, the all-rounder also expressed that his side is moving in the right direction by picking up specialists for the shortest format of the game. In the first T20 against Sri Lanka, Glenn Maxwell fired 62 runs off just 28 balls to help his side put up a massive 233 on the board.

We have started picking specialists instead of regulars: Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell on Tuesday said, "For the past two years, I feel we have turned a corner in T20 cricket and our improved results are an alibi to it. There is a change in the way that we have started looking at the game. We have started picking up specialists instead of the regular players that play ODI, which I feel also gives the players a specialist role and not just the regular roll-out batting line up." He added, "Now that we have specialist roles, I feel the mindset of the team has also changed and it is working in our favour. This also helps Finchy (FInch) relax a bit knowing that the right guys are there at the right spot." He also said that it was necessary to give the captain, Aaron Finch his space in this format. "You don't want him to be surrounded by too many opinions since there is no time in this format. You have to let him be, have some time to think and talk to the bowler. If he comes to you, you answer honestly," Maxwell said.

First T20 against Sri Lanka

Australia handed Sri Lanka a huge 134-run defeat in the first T20 at The Oval, Adelaide in the first T20 match on Sunday as the preparations for the World T20 went underway. Chasing a mammoth target of 234 runs, Sri Lanka's batting order collapsed to the pressure of the Australian bowlers, with spinner Adam Zampa picking up three scalps while pacers Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins picked up two wickets each. Sri Lanka's highest run-scorer in the match was Dasun Shanaka, who scored 17 runs, followed by skipper Lasith Malinga and Kusal Perera. The Australians will try to take an unassailable lead in the three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka in the second T20 on Wednesday.
