ICC T20 rankings: Latest update after India vs Bangladesh T20I series

Pakistan remains atop the ICC T20 rankings despite their consecutive series defeats. India are ranked 5th, after the ICC released the latest rankings on Monday.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday released the latest T20I rankings. The table takes into consideration the recently-concluded ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier, New Zealand-England T20I series, Australia-Pakistan T20Is and the India-Bangladesh T20I series. Pakistan continues to be atop the T20I team rankings, and Australia are a close second only trailing Pakistan by a point.

ICC T20 Rankings: Pakistan on top

Pakistan, despite their back-to-back series defeats against Sri Lanka and Australia, are top of the table with 270 rating points. Pakistan’s good form in 2018, where they achieved wins over Australia and New Zealand have helped them to hold on to the top spot. The Aaron Finch-led Australia, have moved to second place after consecutive series wins against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Australia would look to continue their good form when they take on South Africa away from home in February 2020. England, South Africa and India occupy the next three slots and have all but 5 points to separate them. England are 3rd with 265 rating points, after having defeated New Zealand 3-2 in the T20I series, having won the decider by Super Over. South sit 4th with 262 points, and are set to play England in February 2020, with a series with Australia scheduled after.

ICC T20 rankings: Latest update after India vs Bangladesh T20

The India vs Bangladesh T20 series ended 2-1 meaning India are placed 5th in the ICC T20 Rankings. The Men in Blue have 260 rating points and have T20I series lined up against West Indies, Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand before the ICC T20 World Cup 2020. Deepak Chahar’s record figures of 6/7 in the 3rd India vs Bangladesh T20 helped him jump a massive 88 places to 42nd in the ICC T20I Bowlers’ rankings. Dawid Malan, who has 458 runs in his first 9 games, has seen himself ranked at No.3 in the ICC Men’s T20I Battings rankings. Babar Azam continues to top the batting rankings, with Australian skipper Aaron Finch, who moved two places above to second.

ICC T20 World Cup: Eyes on the prize

The ICC T20 World Cup is all set to begin on 18th October 2020. The World Cup is set to be held across seven venues in Australia. Ireland, Namibia, Netherlands, Oman, Papua New Guinea and Scotland earned places in the showpiece event after the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers. Australia, who have never won the ICC World T20, would like to win the elusive trophy at home. The last edition of the ICC T20 World Cup was held in India, with West Indies becoming the first team to win the tournament twice after they defeated England in Kolkata.
