Ind vs Ban: Rohit Sharma reclaims tag of highest run-scorer in T20Is

Rohit Sharma went past Virat Kohli to become all-time highest run-scorer in T20Is. The batsman was dismissed in the first over itself, scoring just 9 runs.

In a never-ending race of T20I supremacy, Indian batsman Rohit Sharma once again reclaimed the tag of all-time leading run-scorer in the shortest format. Currently captaining the Indian team against Bangladesh, Rohit Sharma surpassed Virat Kohli’s tally of 2,450 T20I runs with a boundary off Shafiul Islam. The right-handed batsman now has 2,452 runs to his credit.

Rohit Sharma becomes all-time leading run-scorer in T20Is

Bangladesh cricket team are currently on a bilateral tour to India for three T20Is and two Test matches. Regular captain Virat Kohli was rested by the team management for the limited-overs contest, thus, prompting vice-captain Rohit Sharma to lead charge of the ‘Men in Blue’. During the opening T20I fixture of the series, the Indian team batted first and posted 148-6 in their 20 overs. Skipper Rohit Sharma was dismissed in the first over itself, scoring just 9 runs off 5 balls. When the batsman was on 5, Sharma punched a length ball past cover to bring up a boundary. The boundary took him past Virat Kohli’s tally in a list which is often circulated between these two batsmen themselves.

Apart from leading the charts for most runs, Rohit Sharma also has four centuries in the format. His four centuries are the most by any batsman in T20Is, putting him ahead of New Zealand’s Colin Munro and Australia’s Glenn Maxwell with three each. The Indian opening batsman is enjoying a golden run with the bat in all three formats of the game. In the recently-concluded ICC World Cup in England, Sharma ended the tournament as its highest run-scorer. The 32-year old also scored 529 runs in a home Test series against South Africa at a staggering average of 132.25.

Team India lost the opening match by 7 wickets to trail the series 1-0. The defeat also makes the upcoming match at Rajkot a must-win game for the home side. The third and final match of the series will be played at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur.
