Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar has heaped praise on opener Mayank Agarwal who has been in sublime form this Test season but added that his real test will be to keep performing in the second year when his opponents will have more information on his playing style.

Agarwal notched up his second double ton in the first Test against Bangladesh. He went on to score his career-best 243 as India won by an innings and 130 runs. The Karnataka batsman climbed up to career-best 11th spot in the ICC Test Player Ranking.

Sunil Gavaskar heaps praise on Mayank Agarwal

Gavaskar, while speaking to the official broadcaster of the India-Bangladesh Test series, said that Agarwal was enjoying his cricket. He added that Agarwal was in his first year and hoped that he continued with his form in the second year as it becomes difficult to perform with time because there was a lot more data available to the opposition about batsmen. He appreciated his batting by adding that Agarwal was batting beautifully.

The former Indian cricketer said that he balanced himself without falling on the offside perfectly, played straight and his movement of the front and back foot had been fantastic, which made him the man in form who was full of confidence.

Agarwal has been in scintillating form since his debut against Australia at Melbourne in 2018. In a short period of time, the right-hander has become a reliable opener. He has matured as a batsman and his conversion rate has also flourished.

In the recently concluded series against South Africa, the Karnataka lad scored 340 runs in four innings at an impressive average of 85.00. He hit two centuries in the series, out of which one was his maiden double hundred. India will hope that Agarwal carries the same form in the pink-ball Test match in Kolkata.

India takes on Bangladesh in the historic Day-Night Test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata which starts on November 22.
