The Indian Premier League (IPL) is reportedly planning to introduce a new 'Power Player' in the next edition of the tournament in 2020 where each team will announce a 15-man squad prior to the game. A player, who is in the reserves, can be substituted at any point in the game.

The idea isn’t finalized yet. It will be discussed in the IPL Governing Council meeting. If the new rule gets a nod, here are the 5 players who might be used as power players in the IPL 2020:

1. Andre Russell:

Andre Russell, the Jamaican all-rounder, is a hard hitter from the West Indies. There may not be a fiercer striker of a cricket ball in world cricket at the moment. And he keeps it simple too. Andre Russell will be the perfect pick for the power player option by Kolkata Knight Riders. A dangerous batsman, Russell has played in over 300 Twenty20 leagues all over the world. He has a long history of injury issues. That could well be avoided with his 'Power Player', which can have a huge impact even if he is not in the playing 11.

2. Jasprit Bumrah:

Jasprit Bumrah is one of the best bowlers across the world. He works wonders with his bowling style. He has the ability to bowl yorkers with different variations. Bumrah can create an impact at any stage of the game with his bowling making any batsman in the world sweat. He played a crucial role in Mumbai Indians' championship victory in the 2019 IPL. If Mumbai Indians need a bowler as their 'Power Player', they can use Bumrah smartly while resting him for most of the game.

3. Colin Munro:

Colin Munro is renowned for his big-hitting abilities. The New Zealand batsman has the capability to turn a match on his own. He has an impeccable T20 record. Delhi Capitals can use him as a power player when they are in a crunch situation, especially while chasing a target.

4. Trent Boult:

New Zealand quick Trent Boult is a tricky bowler as he can make matches more interesting and effective during death overs. Boult is also one of the best all-format bowlers in the world.  He hasn’t got a chance to play all the matches because of the four foreign players rule. But the 'Power Player' rule is just right for him. Boult is likely to feature for Kings XI Punjab this season, according to latest Indian media reports.

5. Andrew Tye:

Andrew Tye is a specialist T20 bowler who plays for Kings XI as well. He has different variations like knuckle-ball, leg-cutter, off-cutter, which are really effective. The Australian is a wicket-taking bowler. He was also the Purple Cap winner in the 2018 season, during which he grabbed 24 wickets from just 14 matches. KXIP will look to use him as a Power Player during the death overs.
