IPL 2020 Auction: 5 big names who could attract less lucrative deals

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 auction will take place on December 19 in Kolkata. The owners go all guns blazing to buy the player that they set their eyes on. Most of them are bought for heavy prices in the auction. Some of them do wonders for the team but there are also players who fail to live up to expectations.

That is why the franchises will rather look to put them back in the auction pool and get them back for a lesser price. Here are 5 such players who could be bought by the same team or others for a lesser price.

5. Carlos Brathwaite: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

KKR got the former West Indies T20I captain for a huge price of INR 5 crores as a like-for-like replacement for Andre Russell at the last year's auction. But he only managed to score 11 runs in 2 games and didn’t pick up any wickets. Yet, given the value that he adds to the squad, KKR will want him but at a lesser price this time.

4. Varun Chakravarthy: Kings XI Punjab (KXIP)

KKR and KXIP were involved in bidding heavily for the Tamil Nadu spinner at the last year's auction and in the end, he went to the latter for a mammoth INR 8.40 crores, which was 42 times his base price of INR 20 lakhs. But Chakravarthy played just one game, where he conceded 35 runs in three overs and picked up a wicket. Later, due to an injury, he couldn’t take part in further matches. KXIP might try to get him at a cheaper price this time and could even use an RTM card for him.

3. Colin Ingram: Delhi Capitals (DC)

The SRH and DC franchises went for the South African batsman in 2018, seeing his vast experience in playing at global T20 tournaments. Ingram was ultimately sold for INR 6.40 crores to DC. However, he couldn’t really justify this price as he only scored 184 runs in 12 games. The Capitals, thus, might put him back in the pool and buy him again.

2. Manish Pandey: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Manish Pandey was bought for an eye-watering ₹11 crore in 2018 but had a dismal season. Pandey started the 2019 season on an abject note and was dropped for a few games. However, he found form at his favoured No.3 position and scored three half-centuries. He could be considered as one of the best middle-order batsmen in India at present, yet if SRH still wants to buy him back, they might look to for a much lesser price. 

1. Jaydev Unadkat: Rajasthan Royals (RR)

He fetched INR 11.5 crores in the IPL 2018 auction and was sold to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) but he failed to live up to expectations. RR used this same strategy in the IPL 2019 and put him back in the auction pool, only to get him at a cheaper price. His price went up to INR 8.40 crores this time. Unadkat, however, had a dismal outing in IPL 2019 as well. So, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Unadkat is hired for a much lesser price by any franchise this time.
