In another dominating display by the home side, Australia defeated Sri Lanka by nine wickets at The Gabba to go 2-0 up in the T20I series. Sri Lanka, batting first, were bowled out for just 117 in 19 overs. Australia lost captain Finch for a duck, however, a 117-run partnership between David Warner and Steve Smith ensured that the home side romped through the chase with seven overs to spare.

Steve Smith represents Rajasthan Royals while left-handed batsman David Warner plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL). In the second game against Sri Lanka, Smith registered his third T20I half-century and his first in nearly three years. Warner himself continued from where he left off in Adelaide, scoring a brisk 60* from 41 balls in his partnership with Smith.

Both Royals and Sunrisers took to Twitter to celebrate match-winning half-centuries of their respective cricketers. Sunrises, while posting a comment about the duo’s partnership, jokingly wrote “What better than both of them batting together”. The Royals, at their quirky best, soon responded by asking if the Sunrisers are willing to release Warner from their line-up.
