Ever since making his debut in 2016, the Mumbai Indians pacer has become the mainstay of the Indian bowling attack in all three formats. Bumrah, who made his Test debut in 2018, already has a record to his name after becoming the only Asian bowler with five-wicket hauls in Tests in South Africa, England, Australia, and West Indies.

He also became the third Indian to take a Test hat-trick, a feat he achieved during the Test leg of the West Indies tour this year. With the T20 World Cup in Australia next year, the team management would want their star pacer to be in better shape considering his importance to the side and also in terms of India's challenge for their second T20 world title.
