Pakistan Super League (PSL) team Islamabad United has appointed former captain Misbah-ul-Haq as the head coach. Misbah’s appointment came after the side sacked former Australian batsman Dean Jones as its coach. According to a leading media portal, Misbah’s appointment has led to objections from other franchises, who allege there will be a conflict of interest due to his multiple roles within Pakistani cricket. Misbah is also the head coach and chief selector for the Pakistani national team.

New season, new coach

A few days ago, Jones had announced that the Islamabad United had decided to go with a new coach this year via a video message on social media. The Australian ended his message by saying that he had a fantastic experience coaching the franchise and wished them the best.

Inzamam was part of a talent hunt programme run by Lahore Qalandars, one of the franchises in PSL. According to the board, his dual role would have become a conflict of interest. Pakistan selector Tauseef Ahmed, who was also spin coach for Islamabad United, was also left out of the PSL draft committee.
