Nathan Lyon will be joining Hampshire for the 2020 County season

Hampshire has announced that Nathan Lyon will be joining the club for the 2020 season. The 31-year-old Australian off-spinner said he's excited to join the club

Hampshire Cricket Club has announced the signing of Nathan Lyon. The club announced the signing on Tuesday evening and the club reportedly released an official statement where it was revealed that the signing is for the 2020 season.

'Will enjoy the 2020 summer with the Hampshire players'

The club said that they were delighted to announce the signing of the 31-year-old as the club's overseas player for the upcoming season. On the announcement, Lyon said, "I very much look forward to playing with Hampshire in next year’s County Championship. It is a fabulous opportunity to be involved with a leading county who have had a long and successful relationship with Australian cricketers. I love playing cricket in England and no doubt will enjoy the 2020 summer with the Hampshire players, coaches, members and supporters. We will all be focused on winning the County Championship in 2020 - I can’t wait."

The club later posted a video message from the off-spinner where he additionally said, "I am very excited about joining up with Hampshire for the 2020 County Cricket Championship. It should be a fantastic season, and I can't wait to head over there and pay in front of all the fantastic members. Let's hope we have some success while we take on the county Championship but can't wait to head on over there and look forward to catching up with everyone."

The club's Director of Cricket, Giles White said, "Nathan is a really high-class spinner and we identified him in the summer as someone who would be a great addition to our Championship side. He has a real appetite for county cricket and is keen to be a part of what we’re trying to do here, so we’re delighted to secure his signature and we can’t wait to have him on board next summer."

Lyon has played in 91 Test matches and 174 innings and has picked 363 wickets, in ODIs, he has picked 29 wickets in 29 innings and has a wicket to his name from two T20I matches.
