England cricket team defeated New Zealand to start their five-week tour on a winning note. The visitors chased down New Zealand’s total with 7 wickets in hand and with 9 balls to spare. The opening T20I between the two teams was played at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Friday, November 1.

Earlier in the day, captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to field first. New Zealand team batted throughout their 20 overs to score 153-5. Experienced campaigner Ross Taylor top-scored in the innings with 44 runs from 35 balls. Right-arm pacer Chris Jordan was the pick of the bowlers for England as he accounted for two of New Zealand’s top-order batsmen. In response, England batsmen comfortably chased down the total in 18.3 overs, losing just 3 wickets in the process. The series will now proceed with the second T20I to be held at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington on November 3.
