It has been reported that Kings XI Punjab co-owner Ness Wadia has finally spoken about Ravichandran Ashwin's departure from the team and it is established that Ashwin and KXIP are amicably parting ways. Wadia also stressed that Ashwin's move to the Delhi Capitals is not a done deal and KXIP are negotiating with other teams too. A player like Ashwin will definitely bring value and experience to any team he joins and in this article, we take a look at Ashwin's Indian Premier League (IPL) career.

Time at Chennai

Ravichandran Ashwin was given an IPL contract by the Chennai Super Kings for IPL 2009. Ashwin made his debut in the yellow jersey on April 18 against the Mumbai Indians. The rest was history as Ashwin established himself as one of the Chennai Super Kings' most important core-members. While he only played two matches for CSK in his first season, Ashwin turned into a force to be dealt with as he became a more regular part of the CSK Playing XI. In the 2010 season, Ashwin took 13 wickets and in 2011, Ashwin picked up 20 wickets. Chennai ended up winning both the seasons. In his time at CSK, Ashwin picked up 90 wickets in the yellow jersey.

After CSK got banned from the IPL for two years, Ashwin became a part of the Rising Pune Supergiant squad and played for them in the 2016 season where he picked 10 wickets. As Chennai re-entered the IPL, it was highly expected of them to buy Ashwin at the auction but Kings XI Punjab ended up snatching the spinner for Rs. 7.6 crore. Added to that, Kings XI also appointed Ashwin as their new captain for the 2018 season.

Stint as captaincy

Ashwin led a fresh KXIP in the 2018 season and the team dominated the IPL until the final two weeks where they fell from the first position to the seventh by their last game. KXIP kept faith in Ashwin and let him captain the team in 2019 but an eerily similar story unfolded as KXIP missed the playoffs, yet again. Now that Ashwin's move to Delhi of India is said to be almost done, it will be interesting to see how the Capitals use the ace off-spinner. He took 25 wickets in his time at Mohali.
