Rishabh Pant goes past this Virender Sehwag record as his entertaining knock brings curtains down on Rajasthan Royals' campaign

Delhi Capitals beat Rajasthan Royals by five wickets at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Saturday. By the virtue of this win, Delhi jumped to the second spot after having registered nine wins with 18 points while the inaugural edition winners were knocked out of the competition. After the Royals had to share a point with Royal Challengers Bangalore when their game was called of due to rain in Bengaluru on Tuesday, the 2008 winners had to win their final league game against Delhi Capitals to stay in contention for the playoffs. At the same time, the Royals also had to hope for the other results to go in their favour.

Chasing a target of 116, Delhi lost the wickets of openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan early on. Then Rishabh Pant and skipper Shreyas Iyer brought things back on track. Pant not only steadied Delhi's innings but also played the anchor's role to perfection. He played a match-winning knock of an unbeaten 38-ball 52 which included two boundaries and five maximums at a strike rate of 139.47. The 21-year-old wicket-keeper batsman finished the game with a six as the Delhi outfit celebrated a well-deserved victory in their final home game of this season.

During the course of the match, Pant also beat Virender Sehwag's tally of highest sixes for the Delhi franchise. The youngster went past the 'Nawab of Najafgarh's record of 85 sixes.

Earlier, Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and elected to bat first. However, his decision backfired as the Royals kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. 17-year old Riyan Parag anchored RR's innings with a splendid knock of a 49-ball 50. The young Assamese all-rounder's innings included four boundaries and two maximums. His knock helped Rajasthan get to a decent total of 115/9 in their 20 overs.
