Virat Kohli took over the Indian Test captaincy immediately after MS Dhoni retired from the longest format. Within just one-and-a-half year into his captaincy stint, Kohli led the Indian team to number 1 ranking in Test cricket. Thirty-six months have gone by, and the Indian team continues to stay at the peak of the ICC Test Championship. The prolific batsman is well known for his aggressive batting and for his resounding leadership capabilities. Such is the unmitigated genius of this Delhi-lad that his appreciation comes from all quarters of the world. Recently, former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar took to his YouTube channel and appreciated Kohli’s on-field tactics.
In one of his recent videos, former fast bowler lauded skipper Kohli’s captaincy by saying that the 30-year old loves to see his pacers rattle the opposition batsmen. He also cited some reasons why he believes Team India is the number 1 Test side and looks all set to dominate the format in the coming months as well.
“Virat Kohli is a bowler’s captain. Kohli is not doing captaincy when he is with the bowlers, he is enjoying the bowlers rattling the opposition. It is a good thing that Indian bowlers have such a good captain,” Akhtar said in his video.
In his video, the right-arm pacer also went on to praise India’s recent dominating performance over the visiting South African team in the first Test. Akhtar pointed out Mohammed Shami and Rohit Sharma’s performance as the duo laid the platform for a big Indian win. Former Pakistani pacer lauded Shami’s effort in the second innings of opening Test where the Indian pacer took 5-35 on a flat Vishakhapatnam track. He also singled-out India’s limited-overs specialist Rohit for his twin centuries on his Test opening debut.
Team India and South Africa will now resume their Freedom Trophy rivalry when the two teams face each other on October 10 at the MCA stadium in Pune. India currently leads the series 1-0 and top the ICC World Test Championship table with 160 points.
