Steve Smith made his return to Test cricket after a one-year ban. The 30-year-old player was banned after the infamous ball-tampering scandal came to light. The Australian player made a come-back in the Ashes Test series against England. Smith scored his 24th test match century at Edgbaston Stadium in the first Ashes match itself.

STEVE SMITH RETURNS TO CRICKET

Steve Smith ended up with 774 runs in 7 innings on his return to international cricket with 3 hundreds and 3 fifities in his 7 innings. With an average of 110.6, Steve has achieved an astounding feat. It looks like the Australian player wished to make an explosive come-back after the scandal and succeeded in doing so. Smith was under a lot of pressure because of the controversies around the scandal, with some people even voicing out for a lifetime ban on the player.

Smith made his come-back at Edgbaston with two centuries in two innings. Smith scored 144 and 143 in two innings in the first Ashes Match. Steve suffered from a concussion in the second match when he was hit by a bouncer in the neck delivered by Jofra Archer. Steve Smith’s concussion reignited the discussion regarding the safety aspect of the sport. Smith was given an all-clear chit to resume his innings by the Australian team doctor. But a Brain Injury Charity ‘Headway’ said that the player shouldn’t have resumed playing.

Even though Steve Smith’s one-year ban has come to an end. The Australian player cannot be assigned any leadership positions in the team for another year. Many former players and captains of the Australian cricket team believe that Steve Smith is the best choice to lead Australia in the future.
