Steve Smith has proved why he is the best Test batsman and arguably the greatest of this generation after some outstanding performances against arch-rivals England in the Ashes series.  Steve Smith has had a dream run in this series so far, the former Australian skipper has amassed 774 runs in just seven innings at an average of 110.57 including three centuries and the same number of half-centuries. He was also adjudged 'Player of the Series' along with England's Ben Stokes. Recently, the charismatic Australian batsman had dethroned Virat Kohli to become the number one batsman in ICC Test rankings. However, he was also a bunny of Jonny Bairstow's tricks not once but twice during the fifth Test at the Oval.

Steve Smith was earlier tricked by English wicket-keeper batsman Jonny Bairstow while batting. It so happened that when Steve Smith was returning back to the striker's end, Jonny Bairstow pretended to collect the ball. Seeing this, Smith put in a full-length dive and got back to the crease safely. Unfortunately, it was a needless dive from Steve Smith as the throw was never made at the keeper's end and in fact, was made at the bowler's end. It was only after the world's top-ranked Test batsman got back on his feet that he realised that he had been deceived by Jonny Bairstow.

England have the last laugh

Chasing a huge target of 399 to win their first Ashes series on Engish soil since 2001, Australia lost momentum early on when both openers were dismissed. The joy of English players and fans knew no bounds when they got rid of Steve Smith for 23 which was his lowest score of the series as the visitors were reduced to 85/4. Matthew Wade scored a valiant century as his 166-ball 117 put the Aussies in a respectable position. However, the English bowlers picked up wickets at regular intervals as Australia were bundled out for 263 and the hosts registered a 135-run win.
