Babar Azam once again showed why he is the top-ranked batsman in the shortest format of the game as he rescued his team in the second T20I against Australia at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Tuesday. Babar continued from where he had left off in the first match having scored an unbeaten 59 at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday. He steadied the ship when the Men In Green had lost the wickets of Fakhar Zaman and Haris Sohail. He scored an excellent 38-ball 50 at a strike rate of 131.58 before his stay at the crease came to an abrupt end.

Babar Azam scores 50 and then gets run out

It happened in the 16th over of the first innings which was bowled by Ashton Agar. On the final delivery, Babar Azam who was batting in 49 looked to complete his half-century with a quick double. Nonetheless, it was a risky double which turned out to be very costly in the end. Azam flicked the ball towards the wide of deep mid-wicket and called for two straightaway. David Warner who is one of the best fielders in the Australian side covered the ground and threw the ball at the keeper's end. It resulted in a direct hit and the Pakistan skipper was caught short of his crease and he had to walk back to the dugout. The video of Babar Azam's run out was posted by Cricket Australia on their official Twitter handle. Watch the video right here.

Iftikhar Ahmed's stellar cameo of an unbeaten 34-ball 62 helped Australia post 150/6 in their 20 overs.

Pakistan hoping to rediscover their rhythm

Pakistan, who are currently the top-ranked T20I side have not had a good time in the game's shortest format so far. In fact, they have not won any T20I series this year. After winning 11 consecutive T20I series under the captaincy of Sarfaraz Ahmed, Pakistan had lost an away series against South Africa earlier this year and were whitewashed at home by Sri Lanka recently after which Sarfaraz was sacked from captaincy and was replaced by Babar Azam in the shortest format. Meanwhile, Pakistan will be looking to make amends in the ongoing series and prove why they are the number one T20I side.
