After starting their World Cup campaign on a high note, Team India will be hoping for to continue their winning momentum against an in-form New Zealand side when the two teams face off at Trent Bridge on Thursday. While India come into this contest with emphatic wins over South Africa and Australia, the Kiwis have registered three wins in all the three games that they have featured in against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan respectively. As per weather reports, rain is expected to play a spoilsport in this contest and there are chances of the rain-curtailed match if not a washout.

Meanwhile, when it comes to head-to-head World Cup encounters, the Kiwis are ahead of the Men In Blue by a 4-3 margin. New Zealand have registered wins in 1975, 1979, 1992 and 1999 editions respectively while India have won on three occasions- twice in 1987 and once in 2003.

At the same time, the two teams will be meeting each other in a World Cup clash after 16 long years.

The Kiwis had earlier given India a reality check in the warm-up game by reducing them to 91/7 and eventually bowling them out for 179 and chasing the target down with almost 13 overs to spare.

Being forced to tinker with a successful opening combination that has cumulatively scored 4681 runs is a bit unsettling but there is also a positive side to the Dhawan injury saga.

It has provided India with an opportunity to test how good their Plan B is.

Rahul's probable elevation at the top will certainly bring Vijay Shankar and Dinesh Karthik into the picture as far as the No.4 slot is concerned.

Shankar's all-round abilities are pitted against Karthik's experience.

The thick cloud cover and damp conditions could also bring in Mohammed Shami into the equation at the expense of one of the wrist spinners.

In case both Shankar and Karthik find a place in the playing XI, then Kedar Jadhav will be the one to miss out.

Pitch Report and conditions: The pitch in Nottingham is a bouncy one, the same one where Windies bowled Pakistan for just 108. Rain is expected on June 13 and will last until lunchtime, according to weather reports.
